Marjaavaan Movie Review: Story

Raghu (Sidharth Malhotra) is a lieutenant loyal to the mafia Don Narayan Anna (Nassar). His father’s preference for Raghu is not tolerated by Vishnu (Riteish Deshmukh), Anna’s three-foot-tall son. He suffers severe problems with his father and blames Raghu for his defects. When a young Samaritan woman, Zoya (Tara Sutaria), who, by the way, cannot speak, comes to her bed to teach the children music, Raghu falls in love with her. Vishnu makes her a pawn in her game for taking revenge on Raghu for imagined rebuffs, and Raghu’s life goes downhill from there.
Marjaavaan Movie Review reads like a list of the worst clich├ęs of the 80s. An almighty mafia gift with everyone in your pocket Check. His rebellious son. Check. The muscular hero with the ability to beat 20 people at once Check. A good girl &  a bad girl in love with the hero. Check. Cheesy and bombastic dialogue. Check. Extra strong background score. Double-check.

The writing is quite casual. Raghu is made to be a cross between Sunny Deol of Ghatak and Salman Khan of Tere Naam. Tara Sutaria is strangely given a paper that does not speak. Rakul Preet Singh is the Chandramukhi of the love triangle and is not given much to do. There is a Muslim character who is beaten while praying. That is wrong on many levels in today’s environment. And one does not understand why Riteish Deshmukh became a dwarf. This gives him a genuine reason to feel ignored by his father. Wouldn’t it have been better if it were normal, and yet his father would neglect it? But that would have turned it into a subtle drama and subtlety does not seem to be the strong point of director Zaveri. And Riteish has been given a dialogue so involuntarily hilarious that all the accumulation of him as a feared villain will turn around. Action choreography should have been the core of this movie, but that doesn’t stand out either.

If Marjaavaan Movie Review is an effort to turn Sidharth Malhotra into a massive action star in good faith, then he doesn’t do it in every way. The actor full of energy continues to play, fists and kicks flying, pronouncing a blow dialogue. But even Arnie, Sly, or Rajini couldn’t have saved this matter from all over the place.
